Umasankar Mohanty elected AIPA president

Orissa-born and Mangalore-based physiotherapist Prof Umasankar Mohanty was elected as the president of All India Physiotherapist Association (AIPA) at Baroda today. Also the founder of Manual Therapy Foundation of India, he defeated Indian cricket team`s former physio Dr Ali Irani by a huge margin.

In the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Delhi, Dr Mohanty was assigned to train all the physiotherapists on sports injury and management. A member of International Society of Educators in Physiotherapy (under WCPT) and life member of Indian Association of Physiotherapists, Dr Mohanty completed his Bachelor degree in physiotherapy from Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research, Cuttack and Master degree in Manipulative Therapy from Manipal College of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal.

Trained in USA, Belgium, Australia and UK, Dr Mohanty organised the 1st World Congress on Manual Therapy at Mangalore, India in 2011. He has been treating sports related injuries through manual therapy camps both in and outside the country.
